Asia’s Sentimental Songstress and Director of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) Imelda Papin left Manila for the Bicol Region and other parts of the country to join the relief operations for the victims of severe tropical storm "Kristine."
Feeling "bad and sad," Imelda said she’d do the best she could to extend her and PCSO’s helping hand to the unfortunate casualties of the typhoon which hardly hit Bicol region and other southern parts of the country.
“Nakakaawa ang mga kababayan natin na biktima nitong bagyong ito. Kaya kami sa PCSO, laging handang tumulong para umalwan ang pakiramdam ng mga nasalanta (I pity our fellow Filipinos who are victims of this super typhoon. That’s why we at the PCSO are always ready and willing to help so that we ease up the condition of the devastated),” said Papin hours before she embarked on her journey to the places and people heavily affected by "Kristine."
“Hindi lang kami sa Bicol Region magbibigay ng suporta. Pati na rin sa lahat ng mga lugar na apektado ng bagyo sa Visaya at sa Mindanao (We will not only give support to the people of the Bicol Region. We will also visit all the places affected by the storm in the Visayas and Mindanao),” qualified the singer-actress.
Mel, as she is fondly addressed, is assisted by her younger sister, singer-actress as well, Aileen Arcilla Papin in the relief operations.
La Papin has been enjoying and savoring her role as a socio-civic leader and public servant.
“It’s very fulfilling to help our kababayans,” smiled Imelda who is also Chairman of Imelda Papin Foundation which also supports the outreach programs of PCSO.
What about her showbiz performance?
“If I have the time, I dabble in acting but my role as one of the Directors of PCSO comes first,” she clarified.
In her free time, Mel was able to do a cameo role in the biopic “Idol: The April Boy Regino Story,” where she plays the role of a doctor who would treat Original Pilipino Music (OPM) icon April Boy Regino when he was suffering from critical health condition in his lifetime.
