The Chinese Garden IN Paoay, Ilocos Norte is a perfect place for local people and tourists to experience the exquisite architecture and discover Chinese arts and culture, according to officials from the Chinese consulate in Laoag.

Governor Manotoc said the Chinese Garden will provide convenience for the local people and visitors to enjoy its wonderful scenery and a place for them to rest and have outdoor entertainment.

TO BOOST tourism activities and provide additional outdoor attractions for tourists visiting the province all-year round, the Chinese Garden in Ilocos Norte was inaugurated last March 10 and is now open to local and foreign guests.

The garden is a gift from the Chinese Consulate in Laoag for the 46th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the Philippines.

It is laden with Chinese pavilions, small bridges, and flowing waters that complement the majestic Paoay Lake and was built next to the Malacañang of the North in Paoay.

The P4-million Chinese Garden was fully funded by the People's Republic of China and took about four years to complete.

The inauguration was led by Consul and Head of Post Zhou Youbin and Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc together with Vice Governor Cecilia Araneta Marcos.

Also with them are Tourism Asst. Secretary Howard Lance Uyking, DOT- Region 1 Director Jeff Ortega, provincial board members, mayors, and some Filipino-Chinese community leaders.

In his speech, Consul Zhou said the garden is a perfect place for local people and tourists to experience the exquisite architecture, discover some Chinese arts and culture as well as an area for them to enjoy and relax.

The official statement from the Chinese Consulate reads, "Moral support, material assistance, and vaccine cooperation between the two governments and its people have written a new chapter in the China-Philippine friendship."

Meanwhile, Governor Manotoc said that the Chinese Garden will provide convenience for the local people and visitors to enjoy its wonderful scenery and a place for them to rest and have outdoor entertainment.

The Chinese Consulate office, established in 2007 in the province, has sustained friendly relations with the Ilocos Norte government, assisting the latter, particularly in agriculture, trade, and tourism development. (HD)
