Police in Santa Rosa City announced a major breakthrough in its campaign against loose firearms, with the arrest of three suspects allegedly involved in the illegal arms trade in this city last Tuesday, June 23.

The Santa Rosa City police identified the suspects under the aliases "Mak," "Venu," and "Carlos," who were arrested after a sting operation conducted in Santa Rosa City, Laguna and Imus City, Cavite.

The buy-bust operation was led by the Santa Rosa City Police Intelligence Unit led by P/Lt. Col. John Paolo Carracedo and the Regional Intelligence Unit 4A under P/Lt. Jay Simacas.

Initially, the designated poseur-buyer purchased a 9-mm submachine gun and ammunition worth P13,000 from alias "Mak" at a meeting-place in Barangay Malitlit, Santa Rosa City.

The suspect then offered the buyer another firearm and directed him to his house in Barangay Alapan 1-C, Imus City, Cavite to complete the transaction.

Upon arrival at Imus, the three suspects presented various firearms until the buyer selected a 9-mm pistol.

Once the transaction was completed, police personnel immediately moved into the residence and arrested the suspects.

Aside from various pistols and ammunition, authorities also confiscated seven plastic sachets containing suspected shabu, with an estimated value of P295,000.

The Santa Rosa City police added that the three suspects were allegedly involved in the illicit trade of loose firearms in Laguna and Cavite provinces.

The three suspects are now under the custody of the Santa Rosa City police, pending the filing of charges of violation of Republic Acts No. 10591 and 9165 against them.
