Fresh from his honeymoon, South Korean actor Hyun Bin returns to acting with 'Confidential Assignment 2: International', a sequel to his 2017 film about a North Korean detective returning to South Korea.

Actor Hyun Bin returns to the big screen as Rim Chul Ryung with 'Confidential Assignment 2: International' after tying the knot with actress Son Ye Jin and the announcement of her pregnancy.

‘Confidential Assignment 2: International’ is the sequel to the ‘Confidential Assignment’ film in 2017, directed by Kim Sung Hoon.

Hyun Bin is reunited with co-stars Yoo Hae-jin and Girls’ Generation’s Yoona in the new film while he also gets to reunite with Daniel Henney after 17 years, co-starring in the 2005 hit drama “My Name Is Kim Sam-soon.”

The sequel, directed by Lee Suk-hoon, follows North Korean detective Chul-ryung’s (Hyun Bin) returning to South Korea to target North Korean crime organization leader Jang Myung-joon (Jin Seon-kyu), where he will be teaming up once again with detective Kang Jin-tae (Yoo), a cybercrime investigator eager to return to the regional investigation team an FBI agent Jack (Henney) in their hunt of Myung-joon.

“People say that sequels are worse than the original films. I think it is because they rely too much on the success of the original film and merely repeat showing the same character. Our movie features what audiences expect but it also includes new, unexpected elements,” the director said after introducing the plot of the new film.

The returning actor also talked about the changes with this return to the film industry after focusing on his new family for a while.

“I thought I could simply perform in the same way that I did in the original movie. But this thought changed soon after I found out that everything from comedy to action elements had been upgraded in the new movie,” the actor said during a press conference at Conrad Seoul in Yeouido, Seoul, on Tuesday.

“Confidential Assignment 2: International” is set to hit the local theaters starting September 7.
