The House of Representatives observed National Children's Month, which included discussions about a new law on child abuse and a proposed legislative agenda for kids.

The House of Representatives celebrated this November the National Children's Month with a proposed legislative agenda for children and consultations on the rules for a new law on child abuse.

BHW Party-list Rep. Angelica Natasha Co who chairs the committee on welfare of children, said that the "Children's Voices in 19th Congress" presentation of the children's legislative agenda will take place on Tuesday (Nov. 29) in the Batasan South Wing Lobby.

“There are at least 71 House Bills about children pending now with the Committee on Welfare of Children, indicative of the strong support and advocacy of the chamber for the most precious treasures of our country, our children,” Co said.

Implementing rules and regulations of RA 11930 will be the subject of consultation with children’s representatives and advocates from 9 AM to 3 PM at the Park-Inn Raddison Hotel in North EDSA, Quezon City.

RA 11930 is the Anti-Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) and Anti-Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials (CSAEM) Act.

The House, in collaboration with the Child Rights Network, Save the Children, United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), Philippine Legislators' Committee on Population and Development (PLCPD), and several other partner organizations, planned a number of days of kid-focused activities.

Formal opening ceremonies were held at the South Wing Lobby of the House of Representatives on Monday with lawmakers, their staff, and guests in attendance.

At the Batasan Makalintal Hall, a whole-day schedule starting with a forum on adolescent pregnancy followed by a webinar on positive discipline and awarding of the winners of the post-making contest in the afternoon.

On Thursday, the House committee on welfare of children, together with the Save the Children NGO, will conduct a webinar on child participation protocol, followed by a tobacco-free training activity for the House of Representatives’ legislative staff.

The Young Advocates for Road Discipline and World Day of Observance for Road Traffic Victims were officially launched last Sunday morning at the MMDA Children's Road Safety Park at the Quezon Memorial Circle complex.

“Most victims of road safety incidents and crashes worldwide are children,” Co said.

That activity was followed by a hybrid forum on adolescent mental health with online participants in attendance.
