The House of Representatives passed on third and final reading House Bill No. 10444 establishing the Calamba City General Hospital and House Bill No. 10404 establishing a Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Training and Assessment Center in Calamba City last Tuesday, July 30.
Based on the 2020 population statistics, Calamba City has a population of 539,671 but the nearest Department of Health (DOH) hospital in the region is in Batangas City.
“The Calamba City General Hospital will benefit not only the people of Calamba City, but also those of nearby towns and cities who travel either further south or to Metro Manila just to avail of government medical services that are only available in general hospitals,” Calamba City Representative Charisse Anne Hernandez, the bill’s principal author, said in the explanatory note.
The bill is co-authored by Laguna Second District Representative Ruth Mariano-Hernandez.
Meanwhile, House Bill No. 10404 seeks to establish the Calamba City, Laguna TESDA Training and Assessment Center to be located in a highly accessible area in the city offering short-term certificate courses and modular training in technical-vocational skills and trades specialization.
Calamba has 46 TESDA-accredited schools and training centers mostly located in the lowland areas making it inconvenient for some residents to visit.
Calamba City Representative Hernandez also authored this bill, which was co-authored by Baguio City Representative Mark Go and Ako Bicol Partylist Representative Elizaldy Co.
