Schoolteachers are more than simply educators. They are a child’s second parents, who will continue the vital role of guiding our youth in shaping their own bright future.
And as part of honoring the tremendous sacrifices of the schoolteachers of San Pedro City, Laguna, the city government led by Mayor Art Mercado recently spearheaded its own time-honored program of rewarding teachers and non-teaching personnel in the city.
Last September 16, Mercado personally led the celebration of National Teachers’ Month at the Pacita Astrodome, where the city government lauded the efforts of the city’s teaching and non-teaching personnel to enlighten and guide its youth.
In his speech, Mercado said he hoped that the said event would resonate with the teachers as his genuine way of reciprocating their efforts to educate the community.
Following the theme, “Empowering Teachers for a Brighter Future”, it was only right that the day was dedicated to champion the significant role of teachers.
Mercado, making sure that his gratitude does not end there, also provides at least P1,900 worth of financial assistance to every teaching and non-teaching personnel from all public schools in San Pedro City.
“This is our way of showing our love and appreciation sa inyo, lalo na’t sa unang termino ko [bilang Mayor] ay binigyan po talaga natin ng importansya ang sektor ng edukasyon sa ating lungsod,” the mayor said.
Meanwhile, the city council of San Pedro once again made the generous gesture of giving perks to the city’s schoolteachers.
Under Resolution No. 2025-163 filed by Councilor Vivi Villegas, schoolteachers and learning support personnel from public and private schools in the city are entitled to discounts at the city’s business establishments from September 5 to October 5, the actual celebration of National Teacher’s Day.
To recall, a similar resolution was filed by Councilor Villegas last year to acknowledge the "exceptional efforts and sacrifices of teaching personnel and learning support staff within our local community, recognizing their critical role in molding the minds and hearts of the learners and contributing to the overall development and progress" of San Pedro City.
From free uniforms and school supplies for students to extending financial, material and logistical support to schoolteachers and other teaching personnel in San Pedro City, Mercado has put his administration’s priorities squarely on the goal of rearing bright, talented San Pedrenses who will carry on the city’s continued social and economic progress.
