Forty-four members of the PNP- SAF were killed on January 25, 2015, in Tukanalipao, Mamasapano in Maguindanao during an operation codenamed Oplan Exodus,. The mission was intended to capture or kill wanted Malaysian terrorist and bomb-maker Zulkifli Abdhir alias Marwan and other Malaysian terrorists or high-ranking members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front. President Duterte issued Proclamation 164 declaring January 25 as a national day of remembrance for the SAF 44.
