Hidilyn Diaz and long-time partner Julius Naranjo married exactly a year after Diaz’ Tokyo Olympics gold medal win in St. Ignatius Church at the PMA grounds in Baguio City.
Weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz married long-time partner strength and conditioning coach Julius Naranjo in Baguio City on Tuesday, exactly a year after she won the Philippine’s first gold medal in the Olympics.
A year after making history in the women’s 55-kilogram weightlifting category during the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, the couple tied the knot at St. Ignatius Church in the grounds of Philippine Military Academy.
"Today marks the first anniversary of our winning the Gold medal in the @olympics for the Philippines. And today also will be a memorable day for @imjulius and me, we will get married today. #TheWeightIsOverJNxHD," said Diaz in a post showing photos of the couple hugging after her winning moment in the Olympics.
The couple’s wedding photos were shared online by their chosen professional photography company Nice Print Photo & Exige Weddings.
“Same day last year, [Hidilyn Diaz] won our country's first ever Olympic Gold. Today, she won yet another gold, as she married the love of her life,” the photography studio said.
In the photos, Diaz can be seen in an off-shoulder embellished gown created by veteran designer Francis Libiran designed with a sweetheart neckline, crystal embellishments, and wave-like details all the way to her train, while Naranjo wore a barong with embroidered sleeves.
Prior to the wedding, a behind-the-scenes video was posted by ABS-CBN sports correspondent Dyan Castillejo on her Instagram account, in which Hidilyn was talking about her admiration for her wedding gown.
Hidilyn said in the video, "Yung gown ko, it represents me. Ito po yung konsepto na ginawa ni Sir Francis Libiran at sobrang ganda po. And sana magustuhan niyo."
Meanwhile, a bouquet of flowers arranged by Gideon Hermosa completed the look for the golden bride.
The golden couple then made sure that the reception was equally shining as they filled the place with flowers and gold-hued ornaments, together with the accented dining hall and the star of the table, the couple’s five-tier wedding cake with a miniature dumbbell at the bottom.
