The local government of the City of Manila is preparing a hero's welcome for Carlos Edriel Yulo, who won two gold medals in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

"Wala po kaming pagsidlan ng tuwa para kay Carlos Edriel Yulo sa kanyang pambihirang tagumpay sa pagkamit ang dalawang gintong medalya sa Paris Olympics 2024," said a proud Mayor Honey Lacuna.

The Manila City Hall is already planning a hero’s parade for the Olympian, Lacuna added in a recent press statement.

"We will announce the date and route of the parade once we have coordinated with Caloy’s team. Tentatively, we are thinking of starting the parade where it all began—on Leveriza Street in Malate, where Caloy grew up. The parade will pass through areas near Malacañang, the University Belt, and will conclude at Manila City Hall. Here, Caloy Yulo will receive cash incentives, honors, and recognition from the entire Local Government of Manila. This is our way of paying tribute to Caloy’s greatness," she explained.

Lacuna added that the city government is encouraging the city's school students to witness Yulo's triumphant parade through the streets of Manila.

"Caloy’s victory will serve as an inspiration for them to discover more Carlos Yulos among the youth of Manila and the entire Philippines," the city mayor stressed.

Yulo is the second Filipino Olympian to earn a gold medal in the Olympic Games, a feat first won by weightlifer Hidilyn Diaz during thr 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
