What's ailing the Katipunan ng mga Artista ng Pelikulang Pilipino at Telebisyon (KAPPT)?
Just as the members and officers of any administration of the Katipunan ng mga Artista ng Pelikulang Pilipino at Telebisyon (KAPPT), also known as the Actors Guild of the Philippines, has been finding it difficult to activate and reactivate its members especially from big television networks, Hero Bautista, a member of its Board of Directors, found it ironic that fellow stars Judy Ann Santos and Piolo Pascual had to organize another organization of Filipino actors.
According to Hero, Piolo and Judy Ann are already members of KAPPT so why would they still organize a new actors group.
Founded in the wake of the raging Covid -19 pandemic, the economic uncertainties in showbiz amidst the crippling effects of the pandemic and the closure of ABS-CBN, AKTOR or League of Filipino Actors is a rallying body to promote the labor rights of actors.
AKTOR is a registered non-profit and non-stock organization whose head is Dingdong Dantes.
Meanwhile, industry leader Rez Cortez said that former members of KAPPT were unhappy with them.
"They were unhappy so they organized a new group. But I hope these two groups will be unified when the Film Commission of the Philippines has finally laid its groundwork," said Rez in our recent interview with him.
