Over 100 representatives from local history and heritage organizations, local government units, and academic institutions nationwide gathered in Guiuan, Eastern Samar for the 12th General Assembly of the Local Historical Committees Network (LHCN) and the 2025 National Conference on Local History and Heritage organized by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP).

The three-day event, hosted for the first time in Eastern Visayas, is organized in partnership with the Municipal Government of Guiuan and Eastern Samar State University (ESSU).

It opened on August 26 with a welcome dinner at the historic grounds of the Immaculada Concepcion Church, highlighted with cultural performances from the Saurog Dance Troupe of ESSU-Salcedo.

A symbolic kuratsa, performed by Guiuan Mayor Annaliza Gonzales Kwan and NHCP Chair Regalado Trota Jose Jr., served as the evening’s highlight, showcasing Eastern Samar’s traditional courtship dance as a gesture of partnership and celebration.

The General Assembly on August 27 discussed the state of local history and heritage in the country and ways to strengthen collaboration among stakeholders.

Meanwhile, the ESSU-Guiuan Campus hosted the National Conference held on August 28 to 29 with the theme, “Pagsasakabataan ng Kasaysayan at Pamanang Pilipino.”

The conference highlighted the role of the youth in promoting and sustaining history and heritage work in line with the Year of the Youth in Philippine History.
