There's life after politics, indeed.

Or better still, it can take a respite to bounce back in a more opportune time.

A former or a simultaneous activity can overtake it.

This is the predicament of Herbert Bautista, actor and former Quezon City Mayor.

Show business has been present in Herbert's DNA so he cannot be taken away from him.

It is his passport to popularity and future political career.

After he lost during the 2022 presidential elections where he ran as senator under the Marcos ticket, he just waited for the right time to bid for public service.

At the moment, Herbert has just finished a crash course in Directing-Cinematography Masterclass under the tutelage of award-winning filmmaker Raymond Red (“Anino,” “Bayani,” “Sakay,” “Mga Rebeldeng May Kaso,” “Kamera Obscura,” “Himpapawid,” “Manila’s Finest,” among others.

The workshop was conducted from June 4 to 6, 2026 at the Movie Workers Welfare Foundation (Mowelfund) Film Institute at Ilang-Ilang Street corner Rosario Drive, New Manila, Quezon City.

The three-day seminar was very fruitful for Bistek.

According to him, he learned a lot from his film studies.

“Ang dami kong natutunan sa (I learned a lot about) concepts at sa (and) storytelling,” smiled Herbert.

No, he isn’t keen on being a director.

“I want to be a cinematographer,” he clarified.

Meanwhile, his politics, according to Bautista, will take a backseat at the moment.
