'Her Locket' bags major awards at Sinag Maynila filmfest

In the Full-Length Feature category of the 2024 Sinag Maynila Film Festival, 12 major plums were at stake, eight of which were won by Rebecca Chuaunsu Film Production and Rebelde Films' "Her Locket."

During the awards night at the Metropolitan Theater in Manila last Sunday, September 8, the film bagged Best Film, Best Director (J.E. Tiglao), Best Actress (Rebecca Chuaunsu), Best Supporting Actress (Elora Espano), Best Ensemble Acting, Best Screenplay (J.E. Tiglao and Maze Mendoza), Best Cinematography and Best Production Design.

"Her Locket" is a tapestry of the Ouyang family's conflicts on inheritance and other struggles gone through by a demented Chinese woman named Jewel Ouyang (Chuaunsu) whose memory is brought back by her locket necklace.

Ronnie Lazaro won Best Actor as the maker of an evil man for Southern Lantern's "The Gospel of the Beast," a dark film on the molding of a criminal by a ruthless killer-for-hire.

Jansen Magpusao romped away with the Brst Supporting Actor trophy for "The Gospel of the Beast."

Best Editing went to Bladsmel Films' "Banjo."

Meanwhile, the Audience Choice Award was given to Feast Foundation's "Talahib."

In her acceptance speech, Rebecca dedicated the victory for his the people involved in the movie, on and off-cam.

Ronnie encouraged thr audience to go back to cinemas to rebound the sorry state of the local movie industry.

"Let's bring back the masa (masses) to the movies," quippec Lazaro in an exclusive talk before and after his win.

In the Short Film section, "As the Moth Flies" by Gayle Oblea took home the 1st Prize while "Bisan Abo Wala Bilin (Even Ashes Nothing Remains)" by Kyd Torato won 2nd Prize and "Ang Maniniyot ni Papa Jisos (Father Jisos' Photographer) by Franky Arrocena got the 3rd Prize.

In the Documentary Film Division, "Ino" by Tanniel Semana won First Prize while "Pag-Ibig ang Mananaig (Love will Prevail)" by Dennis Domingo and "Ghosts of Kalantiaw" by Chuck Escasa both were adjudged as Jury Prizes.
