Go may have realized that even with the blessing of President Rodrigo Duterte, his chances of winning the presidency are zero to none especially with him lagging far behind pre-election surveys.

SIGN from God or sign of the times?

With the true frontrunners for the 2022 elections now becoming clearer and clearer by the day, Senator Christopher "Bong" Go has finally made the decision everybody has been expecting.

In a sudden announcement Tuesday (November 30), Go, the supposed official standard-bearer of the Duterte administration’s PDP-Laban Cusi wing, announced that he is withdrawing his candidacy for president.

“In the past few days, I realized that my heart and my mind are contradicting my actions. Talagang nagre-resist po ang aking katawan, puso, at isipan. Tao lang po ako, nasasaktan at napapagod din,” Go said in an ambush interview in San Juan.
“Sa ngayon po, ‘yun ang mga rason ko. That is why I am withdrawing from the race,” he added.

Realities

Last week, Go said that he was waiting for a "sign from God" on whether to continue his candidacy.

"Iniisip ko pang mabuti. Nag-aantay po ako ng sign sa Panginoon kung sa tingin niya na ‘Dito ka na lang Bong.’ Susundin ko po at s’yempre ang Pilipino," he had said.

However, Go has been facing a harsh reality that even with the blessing of long –time benefactor and boss President Rodrigo Duterte, his candidacy faces a difficult uphill climb.

The most recent presidential surveys has him trailing behind former Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos and Vice President Leni Robredo, who are now clearly seen as the top contenders for the 2022 elections.

To recall, Go withdrew his certificate of candidacy for vice-president and instead decided to run for president vice Sen. Ronald dela Rosa last November 14, purportedly to carry the ruling party’s banner.

He has also expressed his support for Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, who is now running for vice-president under Marcos' ticket.
