A healthy workforce is a productive workforce.
Unfortunately, Filipino workers devote about a third of their lives to their jobs, yet many still lack sufficient access to health services.
This is one issue the national government aims to solve with the Yaman ng Kalusugan Program (YAKAP) of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth).
The program was launched on Tuesday at Yazaki-Torres Manufacturing Inc. in Calamba City last Tuesday, September 16, led by DOLE Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma and PhilHealth Acting President and CEO Edwin Mercado.
With the tagline “Malayo ka sa Sakit,” YAKAP encourages employees to seek preventive health consultations even without existing symptoms.
This is in line with the government’s Universal Health Care (UHC) agenda, a priority program of the administration of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr.
“This is part of our settings-based registration approach, where PhilHealth brings services directly to offices, schools, or communities. Our goal is to expand coverage and make services faster and more accessible,” Mercado said in Filipino.
He added that the strategy also focuses on strengthening the quality of care while expanding reach.
Under the program, PhilHealth members can enjoy access to free check-up, counseling, and referral services, free medicines for up to P20,000 per year at accredited PhilHealth GAMOT providers, and free laboratory and cancer-screening tests.
PhilHealth members can register with YAKAP through the EGovPH mobile application, the PhilHealth Member Portal, or personally at the nearest PhilHealth Office or primary care provider.
A complete list of PhilHealth YAKAP-accredited clinics can be viewed at the PhilHealth website (www.philhealth.gov.ph ).
