In a powerful move against hunger, Globe has teamed up with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to take the Hapag Movement global. Launched on World Hunger Day, this partnership aims to draw international attention and support for the ongoing hunger crisis in the Philippines.

The Hapag Movement has made significant strides over the past two years, feeding over 95,000 people and training 2,662 individuals in livelihood skills. Now, with the backing of WFP, Globe is set to expand its reach, tapping into the generosity of the global community, including the Filipino diaspora.

Yoly Crisanto, Globe's Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer, expressed optimism about the partnership: "We are privileged to collaborate with the UN World Food Programme, the global leader in the fight against hunger. With their support, we can mobilize the global donor community to address this urgent issue."

Hunger remains a pressing challenge in the Philippines. A recent survey revealed that nearly 4 million Filipino families faced involuntary hunger in early 2024. The Philippines' 2023 Global Hunger Index score reflects a "moderate" level of hunger, underscoring the need for urgent action.

Dipayan Bhattacharyya, WFP Philippines' interim Country Director, highlighted the importance of private sector partnerships in achieving the UN's Zero Hunger goal: "Globe’s expansive network will allow us to support more food-insecure Filipinos. We are grateful for Globe's strong commitment to address hunger."

WFP, the world's largest humanitarian organization fighting hunger, will leverage its vast network to support the Hapag Movement. Through the ShareTheMeal initiative, people can donate as little as Php40 to provide a meal to someone in need. Globe and GCash customers will soon be able to contribute directly via their apps.

This partnership also supports the Philippine Government's Walang Gutom 2027 program, aimed at eradicating hunger through food e-vouchers and school meal programs. Eduardo Punay, DSWD Usec, welcomed the collaboration, emphasizing its role in the government's comprehensive approach to socio-economic issues.

With this global push, the Hapag Movement is poised to make an even greater impact, bringing hope and sustenance to those who need it most. To learn more or donate, visit the Hapag Movement challenge link https://www.globe.com.ph/aboutus/sustainability/globe-of-good .
