Over half of national IDs needed to be issued by the end of the year to ensure that Filipino can have seamless transactions with government and private sector.

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) is positive that it can meet its year-end target of 30.1 million printed national identification (ID) cards and 19.9 million digital printable cards.

Press Secretary Rose Beatrix Cruz-Angeles said that as of August 23, the PSA had already transferred to the Philippine Postal Corp. 17.6 million physical ID cards for delivery, the Inquirer reported.

Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Arsenio Balisacan reported that the PSA was making significant progress toward meeting the year-end objective of 30.1 million physical ID cards, or 58 percent of the overall target. PSA is under the NEDA.

Daily ID production

The daily average of physical cards produced by the printing facilities of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) in the last 11 days is 103,000 which is above the PSA’s target.

The Commission on Audit (COA) has flagged the BSP for failing to deliver the required number of cards under its memorandum of understanding with the PSA.

According to its 2021 audit report, the BSP supplied just 27,356,750 pre-personalized cards, or 76 percent of the 36 million required for last year, out of the anticipated 116 million pre-personalized IDs from 2021 to 2023.

It provided only 8,764,556 individualized cards in 2020 and 2021, or 17.53 percent of the 50 million targeted for that period.

President Marcos had ordered the PSA to issue 30 million national IDs by the end of the year, and reach the target goal of 92 million by the middle of 2023.

The national ID would enable Filipinos to have a seamless transaction with the government as it would become an official document to be honored in all transactions containing a person's identity, marital status, birth, and other personal circumstances. It would provide ease and convenience to them.
