I’ve met Alynna Alvarez during my stint as an entertainment broadcast journalist for “Action 9,” a public affairs show and “Arangkada Extra Balita,” a daily noontime newscast, both aired on Radio Philippines Network (RPN) Channel 9.

I was doing field report, writing, segment producing and Voice-Over (VO) for both programs.

I knew Alynna was the girlfriend of Hajji Alejandro at the time because they were always together and even without the benefit of an interview, they somehow managed to show their relationship sans approval or acceptance.

Honestly, it was because she wasn’t a popular singer at the time and rarely, only a few in the media industry were interested in her.

She’s pretty alright but she’s got to prove so much not only basking on the popularity of Hajji.

Imagine, they were on for more than twenty-six years, short of one day to become twenty-seven years—on the day Hajji was pronounced dead.

Alynna and Hajji’s romance was an open book.

Just that is.

Until the death of the original Kilabot ng mga Kolehiyala (College Girls’ Heartthrob) and Alynna has publicly announced her last moments with Alejandro.

“We spent the last 8 days of your life together. I am grateful to your kids Ali and Rachel for reaching out to me. I have been waiting. I think of you every hour of every day.

“2 months ordeal with Metastatic Colon CA, Stage 4.

“You refused another trip to the hospital and chose palliative care instead, in the comforts of your home, in the company of people you love. You knew you were leaving us soon...

“We listened to our favorite songs and we both had tears in our eyes. Your precious voice has been impaired because CA has constricted your respiratory system as well. But I felt your love even without words. And despite the pain, restlessness and hallucinations, you tried to hold my hand...

“I whispered in your ear: Go with God. I love you so much. See you in my dreams. No more pain, love. Just pure bliss with our Heavenly Father.

“April 21, 2025. In your final hours, you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior and His promise of eternal life in His Presence.

“Love ko (my)... you tried to hold on...you know it is our special day today. But your human body gave up on you. Thank you... thank you for your love...

“April 22, 2025. Happy 27th Anniversary, my one and only love, Hajji Alejandro.

“See you in God's time. I love you eternally...”

Hajji was cremated and his ashes were inurned and put on view at the Heritage Park and Crematorium for only one night.

Alynna was not around during the wake because according to her, it was beyond her control.

What she did was go to Eastwood Walk of Fame where she offered flowers and prayers to her boyfriend.

After her failure to get to the wake of her boyfriend, a lot of queries flooded her social media spaces.

Alynna apologized, “Thank you for your messages. I read them from my Archive. All the love and beautiful messages make me smile despite the sadness and longing for the man I love. Thank you for giving us time to grieve. God bless us all with renewed strength...”

Hajji is Angelito Toledo Alejandro in real life. He was 70.
