Governor Susan Yap of Tarlac is one provincial chief executive who believes in investing hard in education.

The lady governor supports the efforts of the Department of Education not only in the construction of additional school buildings and classrooms, but most especially in ensuring the welfare of Tarlac’s young learners by providing most of their educational needs.

Not only that, but recently, Governor Yap turned her sights in preparing public school teachers—both in the elementary and high school levels—to be more qualified to teach, and to teach well.

With that, we mean helping teachers improve their academic preparedness and access the rare opportunities given by postgraduate studies.

Yap is pushing the Tarlac provincial government’s Project Flagships to Reach Educational Excellence-Sulong Tarlac Scholarship (Project FREE).

This program involves the grant of scholarship privileges to public school teachers. Recently, Governor Yap distributed certificates of scholarships to some 310 public school teachers under the program.

The project aims to enhance the educational lay of the land in the province by providing financial assistance to qualified public school teachers to pursue their postgraduate education.

Gov. Susan Yap, in her remarks at the distribution of certificates, talked about the significance of continuous learning and education both for professional growth and for public service.

She said: “As we award the scholarships, I plant the seed in you upon which the new generations and children of our province will rely for their future.”

Included in the scholarship package is financial support covering tuition fees, academic materials, and other necessary expenses associated with their postgraduate education.

The program will also open windows for mentorship opportunities, professional development workshops, and networking events to ramp up the beneficiaries' teaching skills and educational leadership abilities.

For those interested, Project FREE is open to qualified teachers currently serving in public schools in the province of Tarlac.

Eligible applicants will undergo a selection process based on academic merit and demonstrated commitment to the advancement of their education.

Tarlac National High School Principal Yolanda Gonzales expressed her whole-hearted gratitude to the governor, the vice governor and the Provincial Board Members for giving the teachers the best opportunities to attain personal and intellectual growth.

Gonzales said, "This scholarship will not only empower the teachers to further their education but also equip them with the tools and knowledge necessary to better serve students and communities.”

A teacher residing in Matatalaib, Tarlac City who is one of the beneficiaries of the program said she will study well and give back to her school and the community whatever benefits and success that the program will give for her professional career.
