Organizing a bazaar for the first time isn't spared of challenges and birth pains.
This is true to the experiences of Virginia "Gigie" Penalosa, Governor of Soroptimist Philippines International.
When Gigie thought of doing a trade fair, most of her leaders in different parts of the country were edgy but excited and ready for anything.
"This is our first time to put up a bazaar, and, of course, being first timers, there are a lot of adjustments but we were able to hurdle them," said Penalosa on the recent opening of the bazaar at the SMX Convention Center at the SM Aura in Taguig City.
More than the challenges and excitement purged by the event, Gigie and her colleagues were successful in achieving the objectives of the project which was to raise funds to send underprivileged women and girls to school.
"We want to help indigent woman and girls to pursue their dreams of finishing school," quipped Gigie.
At the moment, according to Penalosa, they have sent and are still sending deserving women and girls to school, from elementary to college.
Asked how much they targetted to come up with a budget for scholarship in education, Gigie didn't drop any amount but said it's enough to work on.
"You know, there are unexpected expenses but we can go by," she shared.
Among the other Soroptimist leaders who helped mount the trade fair of native products and graced the occasion were Soroptimist Bagong Paranaque President Imelda Rivera Vibar, Lady Datin Lourdes Salinas de la Cruz Stutely etc.
Beauty queen and actress Daisy Reyes joined the bazaar by maintaining a booth of health and wellness.
Daisy said she is willing to join the Soroptimists.
"Our membership is through invitation," said Penalosa.
