Quezon Governor Angelina "Doktora Helen' Tan has exhorted the provincial government workers on Monday, March 2, at the flag-raising ceremony to keep up the awareness drive on safety for public spaces especially for women in the entire province as part of the celebration of the International Women’s Month.

“Gusto natin na ang ating lalawigan ay makilala doon sa aspeto na tayo ay punong-puno ng paggalang at pagmamahal sa ating mga kababaihan,” Tan told the rank-and-file government employees along with the various department heads led by Provincial Administrator Manuel Butardo at Monday flag-raising event March 2, hosted by the Office of Provincial Gender and Development led by Atty. Generson Paul Mercado.

As part of the awareness campaign on safe spaces act prohibited behaviors, the PGAD office has shown a video clip of various office situations where subtle sexual abuse incidents occur in the workplace.

In her speech, Tan has expressed her thoughts of going back in the inculcation of basic moral values formation at the family level especially when she showed a tinge of sadness upon learning of a rape incident involving a 9-year-old girl and the alleged culprit is a 13-year-old boy who is a neighbor of the former.

Tan learned the sad news from Police Provincial Director Romulo Albacea and intends to visit the child victim at the Quezon Medical Center.

She said that whenever she hears bad news about cases of rape, child drug addiction, she feels at a loss and find such problems hard and feels the need to reach out to the family which is the basic component of society.

The governor also touched on the impending economic problems for the whole country and for the Quezonians from the war conflict in the Middle East involving Iran, Israel and the United States and asked for prayers as many Filipinos are working there.

She explained that when the source of gas supply get affected in the conflict areas it usually results in the gradual hike of prices of basic goods and services in oil-dependent nations like the Philippines.

As part of the National Women’s Month celebration, the provincial government led by PGAD office and other related provincial government agencies have launched a women’s trade fair called Tiangge ni Juana at the provincial capitol grounds.

Tan, Mercado, Butardo and several provincial gov’t department heads led a ribbon-cutting ceremony in launching the trade fair participated in by women entrepreneurs of the province.

Then they go around to check on the various stalls and booths that display a wide range of agricultural, beauty and wellness products along with a booth of the local LGBTQ community which offers free hair cut and facial makeover for the women.

The governor said that aside from programs and activities connected to the Women’s Month Celebration in Quezon Convention Center here there will also be similar activities in other districts of the province particularly in Infanta, Gumaca and Catanauan.
