In the early fifties, when Gloria Romero was just starting her showbiz career, the future Queen of Philippine Movies was groomed by Premiere Productions.

But she didn't stay long with the movie outfit and eventually moved to Sampaguita Pictures.

During this time, Gloria, Gloria Anne Borrego Galla in real life, was the belle of the ball.
Wherever she was, Romero was a stand-out.

As a budding actress, she was also a beauty queen material precisely because of her beautiful face, regal bearing and impressive height.

As a matter of fact, as she was a newbie and not yet fully exposed, she was fielded in a beauty search, the National Fair competition.

It was a tight fight she was in as she struggled and slugged other contestants in the pageant.

In the end, Gloria won Miss Visayas in the National Fair 1954 with Maria Larrazabal as the winner.

Romero, the new actress, won third place in the contest.

After the competition, Gloria decided to concentrate in acting as she was launched by Sampaguita Pictures in a lead role and titular solo performer in "Dalagang Ilocana" which won her Best Actress award at the 1954 Famas.

After that, there was no turning back for Gloria as she tackled challenging roles one after another.

In the 1980s, she was offered out-of-the-box roles like a crime head in Ermita in "Condemned" which starred Superstar Nora Aunor and action star Dan Alvaro for NV Productions directed by Mario O'Hara.

She was also casted as a strict mom in "Saan Nagtatago ang Pag-ibig?" with Vilma Santos and Tonton Gutierrez for Viva Films directed by Eddie Garcia.

In the 1990s, she was again given major starring roles like Star Cinema's "Tanging Yaman" which also featured Hilda Koronel, Edu Manzano, Jericho Rosales, Cherry Pie Picache, Joel Torre, among others, directed by Laurice Guillen.

Violet Films' "Magnifico" was also a memorable movie which was headlined, aside from Gloria, Lorna Tolentino, Albert Martinez, Jiro Mano, among others, directed by Maryo J. de los Reyes.

Gloria won Best Supporting Actress for "Magnifico."

Until her death, Gloria was adored and admired not only by the public but the industry as well.
She was 91.
