Just in time for “spooky season”?

The New NAIA Infra Corp (NNIC) has discovered some 20 abandoned vehicles in various parking facilities across Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), some of which date back as far as 2014.

The NNIC management has announced plans to remove the vehicles in order to prevent safety hazards and create more parking space for passengers.

The airport operator is providing owners with a final opportunity to retrieve their vehicles before they are towed and taken to impound.

"These abandoned vehicles are taking up space that should be available for passengers. They are also a security and safety concern, especially in their deteriorating states," NNIC said.

“We are waiving any applicable fees to encourage owners to reclaim them," it added.

The SMC-led corporation is conducting further audits across all NAIA terminals and expects the number of abandoned vehicles to rise.

NNIC is currently conducting additional audits at all NAIA terminals and anticipates an increase in the number of abandoned vehicles.

Owners must present proof of ownership and valid identification to reclaim their vehicles. After a grace period, unclaimed vehicles will be towed and impounded at government facilities. NNIC will coordinate with relevant agencies to ensure proper handling.

NNIC assumed control of the nation's primary airport on September 14 with the goal of upgrading NAIA to meet international standards.

Since taking over last month, the new management has introduced a range of initiatives such as increasing parking fees.

Despite criticism, NNIC said this policy has resulted in a significant number of parking spaces becoming available at the airport, reducing traffic congestion around the terminals.
