Jacob Cabochan, co-owner of Filbar’s where the school mascot figures will be put for sale said they are thrilled that Funko has chosen to expand its line of figures based on popular icons from our country.

THE official mascots of the Ateneo Blue Eagles and the La Salle Green Archers are now Funko Pop! Figures soon to be available for fans and alumni.

Funko Inc., a pop culture products company has been making vinyl figures of several Philippine-exclusive figures sought-after by collectors including Manny Pacquiao, Jollibee and, Darna.

“We are thrilled that Funko has chosen to expand its line of figures based on popular icos from our country,” said Jacob Cabochan, co-owner of Filbar’s where the school mascot figures will be put for sale.

The two new figures will join other Pop! Based on prestigious universities in the United States as the first school mascots based outside the US.

The Pop College line include Michigan State, Notre Dame, and UCLA, to name a few.

“I think that alumni and sports fans from both universities will be very excited to take home a small keepsake of their alma mater.Funko’s tagline is ‘Everyone is a fan of something,' and there are certainly huge fans of the Blue Eagles and Green Archers. In many ways, these mascots represent their school pride,” Cabochan added.

For Funko to produce these exclusive Pop! Figures, fans have Nikko Lim of Funko Fanatic Philippines to thank.

Lim and the Filbar’s team came up with the idea of Philippine college mascots. Lim is a La Salle alumnus while Filbar’s Cabichan brothers went to Ateneo.

Pitching the idea to Brian Mariotti, chief executive officer of Funko in December 2020, Lim informed them of the rivalry and relevance of the two schools.

“I think because of the success of the Jollibee Pop, Funko was more amenable to making projects specifically for the Philippine market,” noted Eric Cabochan, the other co-owner of Filbar’s.

The Jollibee Funko Pop! was first released in 2018 with resounding success that Funko has since released several iterations such as Jollibee wearing Barong, Jollibee on delivery bike, and a set with Hetti Spaghetti.

The Ateneo Blue Eagle and De La Salle Green Archers Funko Pops will be available for sale exclusively at Filbar’s stores on July 12 for P800 each.
