Construction of the approaches for Mangonbangon Bridge II began with the initiative from the Tacloban City District Engineering Office after it was approved this year.

The project is funded under the General Appropriations Act of 2024 (GAA 2024), which includes the construction of a concrete approach and drainage on both sides of the Mangonbangon Bridge. The total contract value is P14,647,891.94.

This is confusing as, as the Mangonbangon Bridge has already been completed. To address this issue, the OIC-District Engineer Rebecca G. Yuse released a statement.

Clarification

“We wish to clarify to the public that while the Mangonbangon Bridge II is indeed complete, the construction of its approaches has recently begun. We are dedicated to the expeditious completion of this project for the benefit of the residents of Tacloban,” Yuse stated.

This implies that the bridge and the approaches are two different projects.

The bridge project, initiated in March 2022, includes construction of a sturdy, four-lane bridge spanning 12.48 meters in width. Funded by the General Appropriations Act of 2022 , the project holds a contract value of P17,638,577.64.

Currently, the construction of the approaches is in progress and has reached 15 percent completion.

In line with this, the Mangonbangon Bridge II is now temporarily closed since April 29 to May 29 to keep the construction on track and ensure the project finishes on time.

The Tacloban City District Engineering Office is dedicated to finishing the approaches promptly to ensure Mangonbangon Bridge II serves the public efficiently and as this project is significant in enhancing connectivity in the region.
