See murals come to life through music in a project called ART + MUSIC by CCA by the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
THREE artists who created murals back in the 2018's Thirteen Artist Awardees (TAA) of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) will witness their works come to life through music in a project called ART + MUSIC by CCA.
The project is headlined by the Music Production students of the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde.
Featured artworks include “Bakwit” by Archie Oclos, “Hindi Totoo” by Rasel Trinidad” and “Dead Masks” by Zeus Bascon.
“Bakwit” is a 70-meter mural that shows the hardships of the Lumad communities, especially their students when they were forced to leave their schools and homes due to militarization.
It inspired Ben Ayes as he turned it into somber music that reflects on provincial life, the tragedies that the Lumads had gone through during oppression and militarization, and the hope to narrate these struggles.
“Hindi Totoo” shows Filipino mythological creatures as well as horrific and peculiar characters.
Dwight Ian Perez utilized the kulintang, conga, piano, violin, cello, bass guitar, flute, and bassoon to create music inspired by this.
“Dead Mask” is made up of four serpents that are made of lined emotionless masks. Daniel Carlos used the piano, synthesizer, violin, cello, and crystal flute as he composed music about it.
These projects are part of the students’ Composition Class under Gian Gianan, their teacher, art director, and composer. The entries were screened by Oclos, Trinidad, Bascon, and Gianan themselves, along with co-curators Center for Campus Art (CCA) director Architect Gerry Torre and 2000 TAA Karen Ocampo Flores.
These compositions will be used in the “ART + MUSIC by CCA” music video that is to be directed by Raine Sanciangco, CCA associate and multimedia artist. It will be made available by July this year. (EFO)
