The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) revealed its latest initiative on Monday, June 3: Mobile Command Centers (MCCs) designed to provide essential services during emergencies in disaster-stricken areas.

According to DSWD Assistant Secretary for Disaster Response Management Group (DRMG), Irene Dumlao, these MCCs come equipped with cutting-edge technology aimed at facilitating communication and power supply in times of crisis.

Dumlao emphasized that the MCCs boast system redundancy, leveraging satellite internet and generator sets to ensure continuous connectivity and power provision, even in areas facing electrical outages.

This capability, she noted, enables affected residents to stay connected with their families and access crucial information during emergencies.

In addition to internet connectivity, the MCCs feature UHF Digital Handheld Digital Radios, enabling disaster response teams to monitor and respond swiftly within their coverage areas.

Wireless Access Points extend connectivity to disaster-stricken regions or challenging terrain, where traditional wired connections are impractical.

The centers are also equipped with laptops for report preparation, data consolidation, and monitors for information monitoring.

DSWD has already deployed MCCs to its 14 field offices, with plans to distribute two more units, ensuring that all field offices are equipped to respond promptly to any disaster or calamity, as highlighted by Dumlao.

Beyond connectivity, the MCCs possess the capability to monitor food and non-food items in warehouses, storage facilities, and production hubs, facilitating logistics tracking and ensuring the efficient distribution of essential supplies during crises.
