Authorities in Cavinti, Laguna have scored another victory in its drive to convince Communist rebels to return to the fold of society, as a member of the New People’s Army (NPA) surrendered in this town last August 18.

The former NPA member, identified only as alias “Diego,” was a member of Komiteng Seksiyon Platoon CALTEX under Guerrilla Front Committee 43/SIGMA, according to the Special Action Force of the Philippine National Police (PNP-SAF).

“Diego” also surrendered a hand grenade, which is now under the custody of the PNP’s intelligence unit.

According to the PNP, the former rebel will be enrolled in the government's E-CLIP, or Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program.

The PNP-SAF continues to encourage members of communist rebel groups to change their lives and to make peace with the government.
