Twenty-five former members of the New People's Army (NPA) joyfully received their first salaries after being employed by the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Borongan City.

According to Lt. Col. Joseph Buhaoan, Battalion Commander of the 78th Warrior Battalion, the LGU hired these former rebels as forest rangers to serve as the eyes and ears of the government in the campaign against illegal logging activities.

These individuals are working alongside the military and the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office to protect the environment.

The military continues to encourage other remaining members of the armed group to return to the fold of the government so they can achieve a peaceful and safe livelihood.

This initiative not only provides employment but also reaffirms the commitment of the local government to integrate former rebels into society.

By employing these individuals in environmental protection roles, the LGU aims to make use of their experience and knowledge while promoting sustainable development in the region.

The collaboration among the LGU, military, and environmental agencies demonstrates a holistic approach to combatting illegal activities while fostering community development.

This effort reflects a broader strategy to address the root causes of insurgency by providing former rebels with viable alternatives to armed conflict.

Creating jobs and ensuring a stable income is crucial for rehabilitation and reintegration.

The positive reception of their new roles signifies hope for these former rebels as they redefine their path and contribute to the community.

This initiative sets a precedent for similar programs targeting ex-combatants in other regions.

Ultimately, the initiative aims not only to curb environmental degradation but also to build a stronger, united community moving forward.

The support from the LGU and military signifies a collective commitment to peace and development for Borongan City.

Through these efforts, the community takes a decisive step towards healing and restoration.

This journey towards recovery is imbued with potential for a bright future for all involved.
