Sampaloc Lake, the most famous of the Seven Lakes in San Pablo City, Laguna will be a lot better after a P3.3 million floating garden filter (FGF) project becomes a reality.

A floating garden filter is an environmental system that can provide a habitat for animals and their biodiversity, enhance aquatic organisms, and improve water quality.

The project earned its funding from the Rotary Club of San Pablo City with the non-government organization (NGO) Friends of Seven Lakes Foundation as its beneficiary.

The project covers the installation of three FGFs in three selected areas which are near the lake’s outlet, between the outlet and the entry of wastewater, and where wastewater from the community enters the lake.

The project will also cover the monitoring of the water quality and other environmental parameters in the project sites.

The island’s materials and root systems provide valuable surface area for beneficial microbes to proliferate and pull pollutants and problematic nutrients from the water as well as provide shade for fishes under.

Meanwhile, the visible part of the garden will attract biodiversity, wildlife habitat, and aesthetic beauty beneficial for the environment and tourism.

It is also low-cost, and low-maintenance.

By the end of the project’s completion, it is expected that FGFs will improve the water quality and ecological health of the lake and enhance community awareness and participation in environmental conservation efforts.
