A stalled CebGo flight from Naga to Manila caused the temporary closure of runway 06-24 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) this morning but the runway was cleared by airport workers by 1 p.m. CebGo is a subsidiary of Cebu Pacific.
RUNWAY 06/24 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) was temporarily closed on Tuesday due to a stalled aircraft of CebGo, a subsidiary of Cebu Pacific (CEB).
Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said several flight were disrupted as departure flights were on hold and there were delays of inbound flights due to runway obstruction. Runway 06/24 was being utilized for wide-body flights.
Some of the arriving international flights, which are widebody aircraft, were diverted to Clark International Airport as the country's main gateway personnel worked to clear up the runway 06/24 obstruction.
Because of the incident, runway 13/31 was being utilized for narrow-body planes for departures and arrivals.
Some departing flights were able to proceed to Runway 13/31 but not to larger aircraft such as Boeing B777, Airbus A330, A350 which are only allowed on Runway 06/24.
"Cebu Pacific is aware of an incident involving CebGo flight DG6112, bound for Manila. Our immediate priority is to ensure the safety of our passengers and crew aboard the flight. We will provide updates as soon as more information becomes available," CEB earlier said in a statement.
CEB's statement said the CebGo flight DG6112 (Naga-Manila flight) upon arrival at the NAIA at 11:45 a.m. had a runway excursion.
"All 42 passengers and four crew safely deplaned with no reported injuries. All the affected passengers have been assisted accordingly and have left the airport," the CEB said in a Viber.
CEB added that the aircraft was towed from the runway shortly after 1 p.m.
"We are working on normalizing our operations as soon as possible. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this has caused and we thank you for your kind understanding," the budget carrier added.
As of 1:30 p.m., airport authorities declared Runway 06/24 cleared from obstruction.
