E-Cars soon to drive around Eastern Visayas?

With the increasing popularity of electric bikes, also known as e-bikes, people became more invested in electric vehicles for their convenience and because of environmental consciousness.

They once became the hit of the road for its stylish and unique appearance.

As electricity is integrated to transportations, it reduces air pollution and noise pollution, which are primary factors contributing to climate change and represent a significant environmental impact.

Electronic vehicles may have started to exist years ago however with the technologies and innovation in this generation, it expands and reaches people's preference.

One of the reasons for their popularity is their lower maintenance and fuel cost because they have fewer parts that need changing, such as oil changes required for traditional transportation.

From e-bikes now to e-cars, Omoda & Jaecoo, subsidiaries of Chery Automobile from China are now aiming to set “wheels” in Region 8.

While there are challenges to consider, such as the accessibility and charging time, as well as the specific materials to be purchased for the unit, strategies to address these issues must be foreseen and considered when purchasing an electric vehicle.

The first of the electric cars from brand was officially introduced on May 8, 2025 at Hacienda Verde in Tacloban. The launching event presented two models, specifically the Omoda E5 and the Jaecoo E76 for drive testing and on-sight experience. The invitation was posted through the official page of Omoda & Jaecoo Tacloban.

Omoda & Jaecoo is said to be partnered with a Tacloban service center for affordable packages. Additionally, the brand was also partnered with Paytaca, a financial technology company based in Tacloban. The partnership happened to be the first car brand to credit a cryptocurrency as one of the payment methods in the world.

The brand marketing director, Aaron JP Almandro mentioned that there will be launching of more models in the upcoming months however, their showroom in Tacloban City will be announced soon.

By being the first electric vehicle brand launching in Eastern Visayas, implies that this could mean the future is coming and is electric.
