San Pedro City is "Una sa Laguna" when it comes to education, from enrollment to graduation.

That was the pledge of the city government under Mayor Art Mercado as it rolled out the distribution of "Tulong Pinansyal para sa mga Nagsipagtapos" for the city's graduating students

Students from elementary to senior high and even college students who finished their studies for the academic year 2023-2024 received financial assistance over the five-day payout from July 8 to 12 at the Robinsons Galleria South Mall.

In his message to students, Mercado expressed his hopes that the program will inspire them to continue their studies.

"Simula po nang ako'y maupo bilang inyong punong-lungsod [noong 2022], ay taun-taon na po nating ginagawa ito. Ito po ay upang bigyan ng recognition at token of appreciation ang lahat ng ating mga graduate dito sa ating lungsod,” the city executive stressed.

Welcome gift

For the students and parents who received this financial assistance from the San Pedro City government, this cash gift is a welcome present for them

“We take it as a welcome reward since nakatapos po kami ng senior high school. Also, parang assistance na rin po sa amin since malapit na po kaming pumasok sa college, and since may mga babayaran po kami sa mga requirements po namin sa college, malaking tulong na rin po itong ibinigay na cash assistance," Clifford, a graduating Grade 10 student from the San Pedro Relocation Center National High School (SPRCNHS), told OpinYon Laguna.

Mercado, on the other hand, pledged not only to continue but also to enhance the current programs of the city government to support its education sector.

Aside from the much-anticipated resumption of the distribution of free school supplies and uniforms for public school students, Mercado also mentioned the city government’s efforts to finally make its dream of a “Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng San Pedro” a reality.

“Ito po ay tuluy-tuloy po nating gagawin, dahil ang ultimate goal po ng ating pamahalaan ay lahat ng kabataang San Pedrense ay makatapos ng kolehiyo,” he assured.
