Authorities are now looking into the identity of the mother who allegedly left behind a human fetus inside a restroom at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
Initial reports said that the fetus was discovered at the east departure restroom of NAIA Terminal 1 while the cleaning staff were doing a routine garbage collection of the female restrooms on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Philippine National Police - Aviation Security Group (Avsegroup), the fetus was found in a blood-soaked tissue napkin in a garbage can inside one of the cubicles.
The discovery led to the Manila International Airport Authority's (MIAA) Airport Police Department (APD) and the MIAA Medical Team conducting an inspection of the area.
It was confirmed by the MIAA Medical Team that the contents of the blood-stained tissue napkin was a one-month-old fetus.
The Avsegroup said that the remains were transported by the MIAA-APD to NAIA Police Station 1 for appropriate action and disposition, while the PNP Police Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) was also at the scene conducting a forensic investigation.
Law enforcement is working to identify the mother, who could potentially face charges related to abortion, regardless of whether it was intentional or unintentional, the Avsegroup said.
