Fanny Serrano, 72, succumbs to lingering illness

Beauty pioneer Fanny Serrano passed away at 72

Filipino design pioneer Fanny Serrano passed away on Tuesday night at the age of 72.

His daughter Maktin Miranda broke the news first through her social media account.

"It is with a heavy heart to share to everyone that my father, Felix Mariano Fausto Jr. A.K.A. Fanny Serrano has peacefully joined our creator last night, around 9pm, in Manila, at the comfort of our home. The whole family is comforted by the fact that a lot of you are celebrating his life and paying tribute on how he has touched people's lives," the post read.

According to Maktin, Fanny Serrano "suffered from a massive stroke since March 2021, and he has been recuperating since then."

Fellow designer Dave Ocampo, who is the vice president for External Affairs of Designers Circle Philippines, shared his tribute to the late Serrano on his Facebook page. In his post, he thanked the latter for being a friend, mentor, and brother.

His post read:

“GOOD BYE TITA FANNY SERRANO THANK YOU FOR YOUR WORDS AND THE WORDS OF LORD JESUS YOU SHARE WITH US. YOU WILL BE MISS BY YOUR DESIGNERS CIRCLE PHILIPPINES FAMILY!! LOVE YOU TF YOU ARE A FRIEND, A MENTOR, A BROTHER TO ME. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!”

Serrano, most commonly referred to as “Tita Fanny Serrano”, is dubbed as the country’s “Beauty Pioneer.” In his career, he has worked with different celebrities from various industries such as Sharon, Cherie Gil, Lorna Tolentino and Celia Rodriguez.

Aside from his beauty salon, he also entered the showbiz industry as an actor and appeared in some films including “Babangon Ako’t Dudurugin Kita” (1989), “Tarima” (2010) and numerous episodes of the ABS-CBN long-running TV series “Maalaala Mo Kaya.”
