Eastern Visayas recorded a 3.6 percent inflation rate, placing 5th with the lowest inflation rate in the country, as reported by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in a recent Regional Press Conference.

The PSA's April 2024 Inflation Report, presented by Regional Director Wilma A. Perante, highlighted that the regional inflation rate saw an upward trend in April 2024.

Perante attributed this rise primarily to the deceleration in the annual decline of the index for housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels, which slowed to 2.9 percent from the previous month's 3.2 percent decrease.

In the preceding month, Eastern Visayas marked its lowest inflation rate in six months, standing at 3.4 percent, ranking 6th among the regions with the lowest inflation rates.

“If we would be comparing the prices of goods and services, at the average, last month, March 2024, may slight increase of the prices of goods and services. Kumabaga an paghitaas han presyo han mga goods and services kumpara dida han March 2024 mas higher kumpara yana ha April 2024,” Perante said during the open forum when asked about what does the data implies.

Southern Leyte, one of the provinces in Eastern Visayas, posted the highest inflation rate at 4.9 percent, followed by Biliran with 4.4 percent, Samar with 4.1 percent, Eastern Samar with 3.6 percent, Leyte with 3.4 percent, and Northern Samar with 2.0 percent.

Attendees at the conference included various media representatives from Eastern Visayas, as well as the DA Eastern Visayas Field Operations Division Chief, Rodel Macapañas, and the DTI Eastern Visayas Information Officer, Anthea Aivi Borbon-Ancheta.
