Can Eastern Visayas top last year’s feat?
With great determination and a hunger for victory, the Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association (EVRAA) Golden Stingers arrived in Cebu City for the 64th Palarong Pambansa that started July 6.
The team, composed of young athletes from across Region 8, will be competing in various sports disciplines, showcasing their skills and talents at the national event.
The Golden Stingers stayed at Ramon Duterte Memorial National High School where the delegates were warmly welcomed.
A Warm Welcome
Dr. Rosemarie Novabos, the esteemed principal of the school, orchestrated a warm reception for the young delegates in collaboration with the school's enthusiastic teachers.
The teachers captivated the audience with a vibrant performance of the Sinulog dance, embodying the welcoming spirit of the local community.
Dr. Ronilo Al K. Firmo, the Department of Education (DepEd) assistant regional director of Eastern Visayas, added to the festive atmosphere by joining in the dance alongside the athletes.
Mayor Mike Rama of Cebu City took the opportunity to meet with the EVRAA Golden Stingers at their billeting quarter, showing his support for the Eastern Visayas delegation participating in the prestigious event.
Beating The Record
Reflecting on their achievements from the previous year, where EVRAA clinched 2 gold, 5 silver, and 5 bronze medals at the Palarong Pambansa 2023, it was Ormoc that emerged as the leading medalist in the recent EVRAA Meet Medal Tally.
With a total of 627 delegates from diverse regions like Tacloban, Ormoc, Baybay, Maasin, Catbalogan, and Calbayog, the Eastern Visayas contingent arrived in style at Cebu Pier 4 via Theresian Stars (Roble Shipping Lines) on July 5.
The athletes were filled with anticipation and eagerness as they gear up to compete in the various sports competitions scheduled to take place at the Cebu Sports Center from July 6 to 16 during the Palarong Pambansa 2024.
In a show of solidarity and encouragement, netizen Rey Bulawan shared an inspiring message with the Golden Stingers, urging them to have confidence in their abilities and to stay committed to their goals.
As the athletes prepare to represent Eastern Visayas with pride and dedication, the stage is set for an exhilarating showcase of sportsmanship and athletic prowess at the highly anticipated Palarong Pambansa 2024.
