The Department of Social Welfare and Development's Field Office 8 in Eastern Visayas held a training program for recovering drug users and former convicts who are now parolees to help them reaffirm their paternal abilities and responsibilities.
The training, part of the Family Week celebration, was held at the municipal hall of Burauen, Leyte. It aimed to strengthen the fathers' capabilities and understanding of their roles as heads of their families.
The Empowerment and Reaffirmation of Paternal Abilities Training (ERPAT) was undertaken to enhance and strengthen the parenting capabilities of Filipino fathers, enabling them to take an active and equal role in fostering the development of their children and other family members.
“Anchored on the 2024 Family Week theme, ‘Pamilyang Tumutugon sa Pagbabago ng Panahon,’ the training seeks to strengthen the fathers’ capabilities and allow them to understand their responsibilities as heads of their families,” DSWD Asst. Secretary Irene Dumlao said.
The ERPAT program consisted of nine modules that covered self-awareness, fatherhood roles, relationships, child care, and family spirituality, among others.
Through the training, the recovering drug users and parolees were given the opportunity to re-establish themselves as fathers and family members, with the ultimate goal of promoting positive family life.
The National Family Week is observed annually from September 23 to 27, with the goal of promoting and strengthening family unity and relationships through meaningful celebrations and the promotion of Filipino values.
