As part of its initiatives to establish direct engagement with Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), officials from the Department of Trade and Industry conducted a regional town hall gathering at the Jose Rizal Coliseum in Calamba City, Laguna last Thursday, June 26.
The event seeks to bring together MSMEs, local government leaders, and prominent figures in the region's manufacturing and innovation industries.
DTI ROG Assistant Secretary Dr. Dominic R. Tolentino, Jr., Calamba City Mayor Roseller “Ross” Rizal, and Robert Bastillo, President and CEO of Small Business Corporation (SBCorp), held discussions with stakeholders on the importance of promoting and elevating the region’s homegrown industries.
Englebert Josef Go Chua, DTI Assistant Secretary, also emphasized the importance of strong collaboration between the government and the MSME sector.
He encouraged local entrepreneurs to continue placing their trust in the government, which remains committed to delivering inclusive and impactful support.
"Thank you for believing in the government and giving us a platform to achieve more, we are marching with pride and mission. Don’t give up, starting small is okay. There are people and agencies willing to help, especially the DTI," Chua told stakeholders.
Rizal, on the other hand, emphasized the importance of the DTI event as a way of showing that the government listens to the concerns of entrepreneurs who are vital in economic development.
“We believe that real change begins with listening, because governance is not just about projects and policies, it is about caring, understanding the grievances of each individual, and having a heartfelt connection with the citizens. That is why I am grateful for this initiative by the DTI because when the government listens, it will be more meaningful to develop programs that are truly felt by our citizens,” the local chief stated.
As the DTI continues its nationwide mission, Laguna stands as a model of how public-private collaboration can pave the way for sustainable and inclusive development.
