Capiz Province and its capital, Roxas City, are facing a crisis as they declare a state of calamity because of the El Niño phenomenon.

Under Capiz Gov. Fredenil H. Castro and Roxas City Mayor Ronnie Dadivas, the province and city made the declaration based on advice from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC).

The El Niño has caused severe damage to crops, estimated at P400 million in Capiz alone. Nearly 8,000 farmers and over 8,500 hectares of standing crops have been affected, with thousands of hectares severely damaged.

Five towns, including Tapaz, Panay, Pontevedra, Dumarao, and Maayon, were the first to declare a state of calamity due to the El Niño.

This situation demands urgent action and support to assist affected communities and mitigate further damage caused by the drought.
