Enchanted Kingdom, the first and only world-class theme park in the Philippines, won recognition from the Department of Tourism (DOT) for its efforts to promote environmental conservation.
Officials of the DOT led by Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco awarded the recognition during the celebration of EK’s 30th anniversary last October 18.
In particular, the agency hailed the enhanced “AGILA The EKsperience: Saribuhay” flying theater attraction, which was reopened to visitors last October 4 after a three-month hiatus for rehabilitation works.
In her message to EK officials, Frasco underscored the vital role of tourist attractions in achieving the nation’s sustainable development and conservation goals.
“Enchanted Kingdom has become part and parcel of the happiness and joy of so many Filipino families. Many tourists have been delighted by this theme park, so it is very important to have attractions like this that reflect the warmth and hospitality of the Philippines,” she said.
Biodiversity main focus
The enhanced “Agila the EKsperience: Saribuhay” takes guests on a simulated ride over diverse landscapes and marine hotspots, including locations in Mabini and Tingloy in Batangas.
This experience is intended to foster a deeper appreciation for the country’s natural beauty among visitors.
According to the theme park management, AGILA weaves the interconnectedness of humans and nature, seeking to inspire pride and responsibility among Filipinos in protecting the environment.
EK President and CEO Mario Mamon said that the park aims to be an alternative learning institution for students on field trips.
“Enchanted Kingdom also serves as an alternative learning institution where children and guests can experience firsthand the importance of preserving nature for future generations. We host school field trips not only for the rides and entertainment but also for educational attractions like AGILA,” Mamon explained.
Economic generator
Meanwhile, DOT Undersecretary Maria Rica Bueno also recognized the theme park’s long-standing contribution to the tourism and economy of the CALABARZON region since its opening in Santa Rosa City, Laguna in 1995.
“The [Enchanted] Kingdom has generated jobs, strengthened Laguna’s economy, and attracted both domestic and international visitors to CALABARZON—one of our nation’s most vibrant tourism regions,” she said.
Bueno noted that in 2024 alone, the CALABARZON region welcomed over 13 million overnight guests and 167 million same-day visitors, with EK considered a major draw.
