Ecstasy man nabbed at Central Post Office

GOVERNMENT operatives on Thursday nabbed a man who was about to claim a parcel containing ecstasy tablets at the Central Post Office in Manila.

The Bureau of Customs (BoC)-Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), identified the suspect as Henry James Chua who was collared when he tried to claim the parcel.

The parcel was consigned to Chua, according to the bureau.

The BoC-NAIA said the ecstasy tablets were initially discovered by airport Customs personnel after an x-ray scanning of the shipment yielded suspicious images.

The letter parcel contained 100 tablets of ecstasy and have an estimated market value of P170,000, came from the Netherlands.

The agents transported the parcel, which was consigned to Chua, to the Central Post Office where they waited for its claimant.

Aside from BoC-NAIA, those who also joined the operation were members of the Philippine Drugs Enforcement Agency (PDEA), NAIA-Interagency Drugs Task Force, Customs Anti-Illegal Drugs Task Force, Enforcement and Security Services, Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service and X-ray Inspection Project.

The seized illegal drugs and the claimant "are now with PDEA under custodial investigation and case build up for violation of the RA 9165 also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 in relation to Section 1401 of RA 10863 alao known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act."
