The PBA is awaiting approval of its request from the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF EID) to transfer the current Philippine Cup games to Batangas, which is currently under a less strict modified general community quarantine status.
THE Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) has temporarily suspended games in the ongoing Philippine Cup starting August 4, due to the rising cases of Delta variant and the heightened community quarantine in the National Capital Region.
The league announced the development on Tuesday, saying it is supporting "the government’s directive in addressing the unwanted rise of Covid-19 Delta variant infections."
Meanwhile, the PBA is awaiting the approval of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF EID) regarding its request to transfer the games to Lipa, Batangas.
The Province of Batangas is currently classified under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ).
In their current set-up for the Philippine Cup, they are following a closed-circuit system where teams are only allowed to travel from their home to practice facilities and to their game site at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
The PBA Philippine Cup is almost halfway through since opening shop on July 16.
The Magnolia Hotshots Pambansang Manok leads the league in the standings with an unblemished record of 4-0, followed by the TNT Tropang Giga at 3-0.
The Meralco Bolts are third (4-1), with the San Miguel Beermen (3-1), Rain or Shine Elasto Painters (4-2), NLEX Road Warriors (2-2) and Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings (2-2) rounding out the top half.
