A magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck off the coast of San Policarpio in Eastern Samar early morning of December 20.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported that the quake occurred at 3:22 a.m.
This tectonic event took place at a depth of 17 kilometers.
PHIVOLCS officials have indicated that they do not anticipate significant damage in the affected areas.
However, residents have been warned to prepare for possible aftershocks in the coming hours.
