Social Welfare Secretary Erwin Tulfo announced that educational assistance will be until September 24 only.
Due to the large number of applicants versus the limited money available, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has closed its online application for the educational support program for needy students.
In a radio interview, Social Welfare Secretary Erwin Tulfo said “closed na itong application ng educational assistance.”
Tulfo said that over 2 million have registered online for the educational assistance program, the GMA news reported.
“Kaya 'di na namin makakaya o kakayanin pa dagdagan ‘yung two million,” Tulfo noted.
“Ang tinitignan natin ay ‘yung pondo natin P1.5 billion,” he added.
Meanwhile, Tulfo reported that DSWD has distributed around ₱600 million to ₱800 million worth of educational assistance.
He added that the final distribution of financial aid for the over 2 million students who have enrolled online will be two "Saturdays from now."
“Hanggang September 24, 2022 na lang ang pamamahagi namin ng educational assistance,” he said.
Under the program, up to three students from low-income families are eligible to receive cash grants totaling ₱1,000 for elementary students, ₱2,000 for high school students, ₱3,000 for senior high school students, and ₱4,000 for college or graduate students.
Tulfo emphasized that those who were not able to register online will be accommodated by district lawmakers through a partnership between the DSWD and the House of Representatives leadership.
“Next week mag-uusap kami ng Kongreso, sa liderato ni Speaker Martin Romualdez, para pick up-in ang kulang ng ating butihing mambabatas per district na po. Hati po kami sa pondo para ma-serve po naming ang mga hindi naka-online. Mag-uusap ang DSWD at Kongreso para mabigyan din po kayo,” Tulfo said.
The House leadership and the DSWD are coming up with the mechanics on how to accommodate those who were not able to register online for educational assistance.
