Former President Rodrigo Duterte was arrested by a team from the Philippine National Police (PNP) Criminal Investigation Division upon his arrival from Hong Kong on Tuesday morning.
The arrest was based on a supposed warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) and sent to the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol-Manila) early Tuesday morning, it was announced by the Presidential Communications Office (PCO).
Sen. Bong Go and Atty. Silvestre Bello III said they have not seen a copy of the warrant but Go said on the basis of a document shown to Duterte, he was taken into custody by the police.
The senator said PNP chief General Rommel Marbil has assured him that Duterte was being processed at the PNP headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City.
