The Department of Public Works and Highways will prioritize repair of quake-hit schools.
Public Works and Highways Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain said in the congressional hearing on Wednesday that they would prioritize repairing school buildings damaged by earthquakes.
“The seismic rehabilitation program is limited to earthquake-affected structures, and these are only major defects on structures,” Sadain told Business World.
He clarified this point to answer a question from Davao de Oro Rep. Maria Carmen S. Zamora on whether the budget for repairing schools damaged by earthquakes should be treated as flagship projects.
Sadain added that the Department of Education (DepEd) would have to pay for repairs caused by aging.
The July magnitude 7 earthquake in the Cordillera Administrative Region damaged 475 schools, the DepEd said.
DPWH said that they already have a list of schools that were damaged by recent earthquake.
