The Department of Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Office No. IV-A said that it is seeking to maintain the timeline for the Canda-Hondagua-Roma Point Quezon Bridge with an overall progress rate of 69.85 percent.
The Department of Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Office No. IV-A said that it will maintain the timeline for the Canda-Hondagua-Roma Point Quezon Bridge with an overall progress rate of 69.85 percent.
Once it becomes operational, the 1.7-kilometer cable-stayed bridge will connect Alabat Island'sthree municipalities (Quezon, Alabat, and Perez) with the rest of the Quezon Province.
The DPWH has allocated initial funding of P250 million out of a total estimated cost of P1 billion for the bridge's construction.
In March 2018, a ground-breaking ceremony was held in Calauag, Quezon, which started the construction of the bridge.
Once completed, it would be the longest bridge in Quezon Province, surpassing the 300-meter (980 foot) Kalilayan Bridge in Unisan, Quezon, which currently holds the record.
Quezonin welcomes economic growth from Roma Point Bridge
Residents of the towns of Quezon, Alabat, and Perez are also pleased that the bridge infrastructure is progressing.
"Malaki ang pakinabang mga mga taga-isla kapag nakompleto na ang konstruksyon ng tulay dahil anytime puwede na kami magbiyahe kahit anong oras. Hindi katulad ng by boat, pag malakas ang alon, hindi kami makatawid o makaluwas," Lhorie Romero, a resident of Quezon, Quezon, told OpinYon Quezonin.
The Roma Point Bridge is expected to reduce travel time between Alabat Island and Calaug.
Romero added that it will save travel time for passengers, cargo, services, and goods from the land to the linked water transport system.
Ronnel Quing, a private beach owner in Perez and Alabat, said that it will take time for the tourism industry to prosper due to rough roads.
He added that beaches on the island can compete in the national arena due to their white and fine sand, but the national government and local government units must look into the road infrastructure, especially in Perez, Quezon.
It can be recalled that Quezon 4th District Rep. Helen Tan had commissioned a feasibility study to determine the safest, most stable, and most cost-effective passage to Alabat Island, and it was determined that a bridge across Silangan Pass was the best location.
The Canda-Hondagua-Roma Point Quezon Bridge is one of the major infrastructure projects under the Duterte administration's Build, Build, Build program, which aims to help drive economic rehabilitation and growth.
