Locals and tourists in Pollilo Island, Quezon will soon be able to travel throughout the island with ease once the Department of Public Works and Highway’s (DPWH) road network across the island’s three municipalities is completed, the agency assured recently.
According to Ma. Chymbelin Ibal, DPWH Quezon 1st District Engineer, the 23.10-kilometer two-lane highway that will connect the municipalities of Polillo, Panukulan, and Burdeos is now underway.
"Polillo, a tourism hot spot, offers world-class beach and island resorts. With its high tourism potential, the country's current road network will be unable to handle the predicted surge of visitors,’ Ibal said.
The P1.212-billion Polillo-Panukulan-Burdeos Road is one of DPWH’s priority projects due to its potential to provide provide the essential interconnectivity of diverse tourism attractions and function as the main highway in Polillo Island, directly helping inhabitants' livelihood.
DPWH has already finished 6.75 kilometers of the road, after P357.27 million were released to fund the project.
When finished, the Polillo-Panukulan-Burdeos Road will connect the current Polillo-Burdeos Provincial Road with Barangays Balungay, Bato, Milawid, and Calasumanga in the municipality of Panukulan and Barangays Binibitinan, Taluong, and Salipsip in the municipality of Polillo.
Despite being a secluded island about 3 to4 hours by boat from the Quezon mainland, beachgoers and travelers go to Polillo Island to swim in the crystal-clear waters of Anilon Island, Anawan Island, and Kabalo Sandbar, among others.
